Cinemantic Prelude

hsugimoto-walker-theater.jpg

2007 was a great year for cinema. Each month, movies were constantly being released that far exceeded my expectations, not to mention entertained the hell out of me. Thus, it has been really hard for me to construct some kind of ‘year end list’. However, after hours and hours of debate, I have decided to post a list of my ‘Favorite Films of 2007’. Although, I must admit that this list is nowhere near complete. I can easily think of at least 9 films that I haven’t seen which would probably have decent shots at making this list. However, it is now February; I figure that it’s probably about time for me to bite the bullet and post what I’ve got.As of now, the list consists of 35 movies. Technically, there are 15 other movies that I could affix to the list and make it a nice Top50; but I just didn’t feel like watering it down that much. The films on my list aren’t necessarily the ‘best’ films that came out in 2007. The films on my list are my Favorite/best films of the year. That being said, my list will have a few surprises on it; and it also might be a little random at times. Thus, it shall be entertaining and SUPER informative. Before I kick things off, I should probably list the films I haven’t had the opportunity to view yet. All of these films are considered 2007 releases. AND due to reception and, well, my gut instinct; they would probably have a decent shot to make it on my list. These films are as follows:- There Will Be Blood- Margot at the Wedding- Savages- Rescue Dawn- Into the Wild- A Mighty Heart- Diving Bell and the Butterfly- Michael Clayton- Away from HerI realize that I might be a slacker for not having watched Rescue Dawn or A Mighty Heart yet; but give me a break. I have watched over 80 movies that have come out in 2007. (Yes, movies take up a great deal of my life). AND that’s not even counting the films I watched from other years.Did you know that I have watched 23 movies already this year? That’s on pace for about 265 movies this year. Yikes. This is when I break it into hours consumed, days wasted, which would show how much I’m a loser cool person. However, instead of that making me lame; I ‘m going to let the #35 entry on my list do that for me . . . Till then, see yah next post.

  1. i saw There Will Be Blood last week. it was swell. on a scale from one to ten i would give it a 7.5. use that and work it into your grading system.
